ASPARAGUS

Fresh asparagus is one of the “core products” of Crystal Valley. Peruvian green & white asparagus are imported 52 weeks a year, and supplemented by Mexican asparagus during the Spring program from Sinaloa and the Summer program from Guanajuato.

Asparagus is available in 11# boxe year around, and in 28# boxes from Caborca. Presentations include full length 1 pound bunch packs, tip packs with hang tags or tip pacds in extended shelf life bags.

FRENCH BEANS

French beans make up the second “core product” of Crystal Valley. The primary focus in on Guatemalan French beans 52 weeks a year. New farming techniques introduced in Guatemala such as broader usage of plastic mulch row covers and also plastic HOOP HOUSES have greatly reduced quality problems during the rainy season. Traditional products are the “10 * 2 lb” foodservice pack; 5 pound (2 * 2.5 lb bags) bulk pack; and a range of 16 ounce and 8 ounce foodservice and retail packs (Crystal Valley and Private Label).

SNOW PEAS & SUGAR SNAPS

Snow peas & sugar snap peas, the “third core group of products”, are imported from Guatemala 52 weeks a year. They are augmented with supplies from Peru during the June – October rainy season when Guatemala can experience some supply challenges. Guatemala is also working on the use of improved farming techniques in larger projects (plastic mulch & hoop houses) in order to reduce the impact of rains on the delicate pea pods.

Mexican product is also imported via McAllen.

A full line of baby vegetables is imported 52 weeks a year, augmented by Guatemalan blackberries – seasonally:
